This Mini-Lecture, which Dr. Anne Davis presented to a meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature, examines the "divorce passage in Matthew 19:3-12 and suggests the presence of ancient methods of midrash. She carefully explains these ancient methods and the deeper meaning from the Hebrew Scriptures that they convey. Therefore, if one interprets the passage literally, not only will the intended meaning likely be lost but an incorrect (and possibly harmful) interpretation might also result.
